generational prayer

In the Magnificat, the Virgin Mary says:
The Almighty has done great things for me:
holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
In every generation.

Things can be passed down from generation to generation. Some of these things are good, and some can be bad. I’m currently renouncing some of the bad and so, inspired the Magnificat and the words of Mary, I was inspired to write my own prayer:

I refuse the power of the sins of my ancestors over my life:
I refuse to associate myself with those ways.
I renounce any influence they have on my life,
these things end with me.
I have been baptized,
into life with Christ.
I choose for myself this day,
to walk towards a God of love,
and not abuse.
I renounce the lies I have believed about God.
I thank God for being there,
even when I insisted loudly and obnoxiously that God was not.
God’s presence was always there.
God have mercy on me as you did on Mary,
As I walk away from generational sins
and align myself totally and fully with You.
